A Heartfelt Message for New Breastfeeding Moms

Hey there, everyone! I'm Jacqueline, a solo mom who welcomed my son, Luca, into the world at 40. Now, at 41, I'm reaching out to all you soon-to-be moms or new moms, especially if breastfeeding is close to your heart. This message is for you.

Let me be real with you: breastfeeding wasn't a walk in the park for me. It was more like a marathon through a swamp. I faced challenges that made me want to throw in the towel every single day. Tears were practically my daily companion.

My journey started with a bumpy induction at 39 weeks due to my age, IVF, and gestational diabetes. The early induction didn't do any favors for my milk supply. I felt like a dry well in the hospital, struggling while other moms seemed to breeze through.

Back home, things didn't magically get better. Luca just wouldn't latch, no matter what I tried. It was heartbreaking because breastfeeding meant the world to me. But there we were, struggling and supplementing with formula.

I sought help from support groups in Montreal, like Nurri source, where fellow moms and lactation consultants became my lifelines. Their guidance gave me hope in my darkest moments. And finally, after nearly two weeks of perseverance, my milk started flowing, and Luca latched on.

Now, at 11 weeks old, my little man is exclusively breastfed. It's been a rollercoaster, but we made it. And you can too.

To all the moms feeling like they're failing: you're not alone. Don't give up. Keep pumping, keep trying to latch, and yes, indulge in those oatmeal cookies—they might just work wonders for your morale. Trust me, I've tested the theory with Oreos too!

Remember, it's okay to struggle. It's okay to feel overwhelmed. But you're doing an incredible job, even on the toughest days. You're not just surviving; you're thriving, mama.

So, if you ever need a listening ear or a virtual shoulder to lean on, I'm here for you. We're all in this together, cheering each other on. You're strong, you're fierce, and you've got this.

Sending you all the love and support in the world. You're amazing, mama. Keep shining.

With love, Jacqueline and Luca
